Union Burial Cemetery Society Fund Raiser

By Matt Galik

Hello friends. If you live in the Mokena/Frankfort area, you may be familiar with the historic Union Burial Society Cemetery, which is in southern Frankfort Township, in a patch of woods just north of the Gateway Community. (Or maybe not! It's hidden very well, as there's no road that goes to it)

I come to you with a heavy heart. The weather of the past year had absolutely destroyed this historic place, with many massive trees being uprooted, and gravestones damaged. There are no funds to care for these hallowed grounds, and the Will County Historical Society is raising money to spruce the place back up. This cemetery dates from at least the 1850s, and contains the grave of a brave Union soldier, a veteran of Abraham Lincoln's army. Any bit of money helps the effort, from some change to a few dollars. If you can find it in your heart to give in the memory of our forefathers, please send your check to the Will County Historical Society, at 803 S. State Street, Lockport, IL 60441. (Please specify that it's for the cemetery) Thank you very much!

There is a GoFundMe page at the following url: https://www.gofundme.com/f/union-burial-society-cemetery-restoration/donate
