Preserving Frankfort’s Past for its Future!

From its 19th century roots to its 21st century vision, Frankfort is a community that values its heritage and its history. We invite you to explore our website and then come explore our town. From generation to generation, the spirit of Frankfort IL lives on through its people and places, and, in part, through the work of the Frankfort Area Historical Society and Frankfort Preservation Foundation.

2023 Historic Buildings Survey

The primary goal of the project is to update an earlier reconnaissance survey of this area, completed in 1996, and complete the first intensive historic resources survey for the Village of Frankfort, which provides important documentation to support the Village’s Historic Preservation Commission in its objectives. The Village was awarded a Certified Local Government (CLG) Grant from the Historic Preservation Division of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to prepare the survey.
